You may know that until three years ago, Falderal Musical Theater Company performed musicals and revues at the Redwood Curtain Theatre in Eureka. The RCT lost their lease and we've been anxiously anticipating a new venue be found, but nothing has yet materialized.
So... Falderal has "reinvented itself" as a small vocal ensemble -- with a twist. We are not a "traditional" choral group, as we consider ourselves a "performance group" who engages with the audience rather than just standing still and singing. Our focus is entertaining as we sing, thus the name "Falderal Musical Theater Company." Prospective members should have experience singing in a group/choir and hopefully, can read music.
We will work on several styles of music accumulating a repertoire. Then, we will offer our group as entertainment for dinner parties, corporate functions, and business meetings. In addition, non-profit organizations can use a performance for a fundraiser (THEY sell the tickets, print posters, set up and clean up after, etc!).
So far, we are working on several medleys:
* Irving Berlin tunes (includes Blue Skies, Puttin' On the Ritz, & God Bless America)
* Les Miserables
* Grease
* Phantom of the Opera
In the near future, we will add songs from Disney, a medley of ABBA songs, and a medley of songs by the Beatles.
At this time, rehearsals are Tuesday evenings 7-9pm at the Bethel Church in Eureka, but is subject to change depending on the desires of the members. At some point, we may rehearse in Arcata or McK every-other month.
Each person is asked to assist in some way (ie: recruiting members, promoting the group, arranging gigs, serving on the Board of Directors - Pres, Vice Pres, Sec, Treas or member, and other things).
This is a year-round commitment, not just a "per show" gig. We'd like to be an ensemble, working as a team, known as FALDERAL. We are looking for people willing to make a long-term commitment and not have people come and go. (Of course, things happen that a person might need to miss a rehearsal now and then. Someone might even have to leave for a few months --having a baby, going on a trip, job stuff... but hopefully that won't happen much.) If you love to sing and you're itching to be part of a group of good singers we hope Falderal is what you are looking for!
Sound good? Call or email Shirley or DeAnna if you have questions or if you want to arrange an informal audition.
We are also looking for an accompanist. Hope to hear from you soon.
